Game 3 of the World Series between the Giants and Rangers had the earliest start time in 23 years in an effort to draw more younger viewers. It ended up being the second-lowest-rated World Series broadcast ever.

Saturday night's 4-2 Rangers win garnered a 6.7 rating for FOX, down from a 9.1 in last year's Yankees-Phillies Game 3.

The only World Series game to register lower among viewers was at the other extreme as far as start time goes. Game 3 of the 2008 series between the Rays and Phillies didn't start until after 10 p.m. ET because of rain and drew a 6.1 rating.

The first pitch for Game 3 came at 7 p.m. ET -- 6 p.m. local time in Texas and 4 p.m. in San Francisco. It was the earliest start since Game 6 of the 1987 World Series.

Going up against college football on television, Saturday's game saw viewership numbers drop off considerably from the first two games of this World Series. Game 1 drew an 8.9 rating and Game 2 tallied an 8.5.

The rating number represents the percentage of all homes with televisions tuned into a program.
