Jamie Moyer Injured in Winter Ball; Career Could Be in Doubt

Jamie MoyerLess than two weeks shy of his 48th birthday, Jamie Moyer's long baseball career may be over.

Moyer has been pitching in the Dominican Winter League this fall with the hope of proving that the elbow he injured during the 2010 season is healthy enough for another season in the majors, but things aren't going as planned.

According to Dominican reporter Dionisio Soldevila
, Moises Alou, the GM of Moyer's winter team, says that the venerable lefty's career is probably over after re-injuring his elbow yesterday.

Not that anyone needs more perspective on how long Moyer's career has lasted, but let's use his current GM, Alou, in comparison to Moyer's career. Alou, who retired after the 2008 season, was around the big leagues for so long that in the early part of his career, he was traded from Pittsburgh to the Montreal Expos because the Pirates needed to shore up their rotation to make a run at the National League East title (read that sentence to a 12-year-old and see how much sense it makes to him).

The kicker is that Alou is five years younger than Moyer.
