Academy teams head to winter showcase
WASHINGTON ? The first team may have departed the nation?s capital for their offseason break, but for D.C. United?s Academy, the work is very much an ongoing process.
The bulk of D.C.?s Development Academy season doesn?t start until March 2012, but training sessions started this fall, with various friendlies scheduled along the way to keep the competitive juices flowing.
Like always, the goal is to further the development of the area?s young talent.

De Rosario credits Olsen after picking up MVP award
WASHINGTON ? There?s little doubt that Dwayne De Rosario?s move to D.C. United played a huge part in the 33-year-old capturing the 2011 MLS MVP award last week.
The Canadian veteran went on a tear after a move to D.C. in late June, scoring 13 times and adding seven assists in 17 games. But it wasn?t just a new environment that helped him put on an MVP-caliber performance, it was also thanks to the help of Ben Olsen, who completed his first full year as head coach

Brandon McDonald and Kurt Morsink undergo hernia surgeries
D.C. United announced today that defender Brandon McDonald and midfielder Kurt Morsink both underwent surgery for sports hernias on their right and left sides. Both players traveled to Munich, Germany for the procedure performed by hernia specialist Dr. Ulrike Muschaweck.

Najar to train with Tottenham Hotspur
On a team littered with talented young players, Andy Najar is widely considered to be D.C. United's brightest young prospect. The 2010 MLS Rookie of the Year is an emerging star in MLS, and after a successful sophomore campaign others have started to take notice.
Like teammates Bill Hamid and Perry Kitchen, Najar is heading to Europe this offseason to enhance his game. Najar is following in Hamid's footsteps by traveling to England, only instead of West Bromwich Albion, the 18-year-old winger is en route to North London's Tottenham Hotspur.

Francisco Tobar earns 2011 MLS Team Administrator of the Year Award
Major League Soccer announced today that D.C. United?s Francisco Tobar has been named 2011 MLS Team Administrator of the Year, presented by ATI Event Experts. This is Tobar?s second League honor, having earned the Equipment Manager of the Year Award in 2007.
?There is a lot of work that goes on behind the scenes at any MLS club, and to be recognized like this is very humbling,? said Tobar. ?This is a blessing and I?m very grateful to those that had a say in the voting, and I?m thankful to the rest of our staff for their hard work this season.?

Protected player list
Each current MLS club has had the opportunity to protect 11 players from their 2011 roster. Generation adidas players (who did not graduate at the end of the 2011 season) and Homegrown players are automatically protected and do not count against a team's 11 protected roster spots. Designated Players do not have to be protected unless the player has a no trade clause in his contract. MLS Clubs may lose no more than one player from their 2011 roster during the Expansion Draft.

Francisco Tobar Q&A
Francisco Tobar is one of the busiest members of D.C. United. If the team is on the move or getting ready for an event, the man known inside the Black-and-Red locker room as Cici is at the center of it all. On Sunday, Tobar was recognized as Major League Soccer's 2011 Team Administrator of the Year for his efforts. One of the longest-tenured members of the club, few people at RFK Stadium have the same respect and appreciation for United as Tobar.

On Saturday, November 16, United?s U-16?s began their campaign with a 2-0 victory against Seacoast United. Tobias Kastan gave United a 1-0 lead in the 30thminute with an assist from Chrystian Najar. The final score was decided by Michael Seaton, who stole the ball from a defender and beat the Seacoast goalkeeper to make it 2-0.

D.C. United?s Academy teams kickoff the U.S. Soccer Development Academy season this weekend with both the U-18 and U-16 teams in action. On Saturday, November 19, both sides are set to play against Seacoast United. On Sunday, November 20, the Black-and-Red take on Empire United. All four matches will take place at Prince George?s Community College in Largo, Md.
