Paul Millsap, Jazz Stun Heat With Overtime Win in Miami

Chris Bosh and Paul MillsapMIAMI -- The Miami Heat suffered their first home loss of the season at the hands of the Utah Jazz, 116-114. The key word there is "suffer," as the Heat allowed the Jazz one too many opportunities to get back in the game after starting strong and holding a lead as large as 22 points in the first half.

Jazz coach Jerry Sloan made the necessary adjustments at halftime to get Deron Williams going, and Paul Millsap had one of his best NBA games ever as he exploded for 46 points, including unprecedented 3-for-3 shooting beyond the arc late in the game and a game-tying putback layup at the buzzer to send the game into overtime. The game was won in the paint as the Jazz outscored the Heat by 20 points inside.

First Quarter:

The Heat raced out to a 15-7 start with an 8-0 run that forced Jazz coach Jerry Sloan to call a quick timeout. Bosh was the focal point of the offense early as Carlos Arroyo and LeBron James looked to get him going after a slow start to the season. Even Joel Anthony got in on the act with back-to-back baskets, including a turnaround jumper after posting up Al Jefferson. Utah's offense looked stagnant at the outset with little in terms of play-making creativity from Williams.

With barely a minute and a half left in the quarter, the Jazz finally hit double-figures in scoring, electing to not exploit the Heat's defense with pick-and-rolls to free up Williams. The Heat closed the quarter with a 12-point lead behind Bosh scoring seven points and LeBron grabbing six rebounds, one away from tying his season high in rebounds for a game.
