Dallas Stars Also Making Noise in Texas

Filed under:

The past few weeks, the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex area has been glued to the Texas Rangers' World Series run, and of course to the Cowboys, leaving the Stars in the background.

The Stars, though, have had some nice moments early in the season, jumping out to a good start before a little falter, and the team watched its fellow Tom Hicks-bankrupted franchise, the Rangers, with great interest.

"It gives us a sense of where we can get to," Stars coach Marc Crawford told FanHouse by phone on Tuesday. "The Rangers never used any problems around the franchise as an excuse. They did things the right way. And boy did they have a ton of character."

Crawford, clearly in tune with the local culture, attended each of the Cowboys' past two home games, and he was impressed by how much support the area showed the baseball team, which usually ranks a distant second behind the Cowboys.

"There were so many Rangers shirts in the crowd -- I'm used to seeing that sea of silver and blue, but there was a ton of red," he said. "At the Monday night game, the biggest cheer of the night was when they introduced Nolan Ryan."
