Roy Helu Jr. Says Hello to Record Books

Roy Helu Jr.LINCOLN, Neb. -- Roy Helu Jr. couldn't really explain his success. He smiled, laughed and thanked everyone in Nebraska red. When informed that Cornhuskers fans were chanting his name in the closing seconds of Saturday's 31-17 victory over No. 7 Missouri here at Memorial Stadium, Helu seemed genuinely surprised.

"I wish I would have heard it," Helu said.

Well, not really. The sellout crowd of 85,907 actually had pronounced Helu's name wrong. Way wrong. "HAY-loo, HAY-loo" should have been "HEL-lou Jr.," that according to the polite and slightly embarrassed senior I-Back who set a Nebraska record with 307 yards rushing against the Tigers.
