Lee Westwood to Remain in Europe for Most of 2011

Filed under:

Lee Westwood will not be a regular on the PGA Tour in the United States next year. The 37-year-old Englishman will put family first in 2011, staying in Europe and forgoing the bigger paydays he could receive by competing for the FedEx Cup.

"I don't want to get into a situation where I have to play events in America just to make up 15 needed for tour membership," he said. "The FedEx Cup sits right in the middle of the kids' summer holidays and I like going on holiday with them for a couple of weeks."

The No. 2-ranked Westwood - and most likely soon to be top ranked- will only play in the U.S. for major tournaments, World Golf Championships and other select events of his choosing in 2011.

"I'm not taking my card up in the States," Westwood said Wednesday as he prepared for Thursday's start of the Dunhill Links Championship.
