O-Line 'Em Up: Blame Coaches, Not Players, for Bears' Protection Woes

Jay CutlerFive games into a disaster of epic proportions, the Bears' coaching staff seems to be focused on figuring out who to blame for a league-worst 27 sacks.

That would make a whole lot of sense, but in this case the coaches appear to be focused on making sure they aren't blamed for the problem.

When asked whether his protection schemes could be blamed for some of the pass protection problems, Bears offensive line coach Mike Tice was quick to deflect the blame.

"That's what we get paid to do," the Bears offensive line coach said. "I get paid to teach them, and they get paid to execute them."

In past weeks, Jay Cutler's tendency to hold the ball (eight of the Bears sacks have come when Cutler held the ball for 3.4 seconds or more) was part of the problem. That wasn't the case against Seattle -- amazingly all six sacks came in 2.2 seconds or less.
