Fresno State and Nevada to Remain in WAC Until 2012

WAC commissioner Karl Benson finally scored a win for his conference.

Nevada and Fresno State will remain in the Western Athletic Conference through June 30, 2012, according to a settlement reached by the conference and the two schools.

"I don't think I'm prepared to say if it was a good deal or a bad deal," Benson said. "It's time for all parties to move on."

Previously, Nevada and Fresno State, which accepted invitations to the Mountain West Conference in August, were trying to leave for their new stomping grounds after this school year. But Benson, on behalf of the league's remaining six schools -- Utah State, San Jose State, Louisiana Tech, New Mexico State, Idaho and Hawaii -- filed a lawsuit to keep Fresno State and Nevada in the conference through the 2011-12 school year. The three parties and the Mountain West Conference, which was also named in the suit, went through mediation and the WAC came out on top.
