Mathias Kiwanuka Officially Done for Season With Neck Injury

Mathias Kiwanuka's health has been the subject of uncertainty in recent weeks, but that situation has been cleared with the news that the Giants plan to place Kiwanuka on injured reserve, ending his season.

Kiwanuka suffered a herniated disc in his neck during a 34-10 win over the Texans on Oct. 1. Initially, Kiwanuka expressed hope that he would return quickly, but that obviously isn't the case. Surgery is an option, but it's uncertain whether or not Kiwanuka will choose that route. Still, doctors expect full recovery.

It's a bad turn for Kiwanuka, who is in a contract year. He's a versatile player who can rush from the edge or in a stand-up position, and he had four sacks in three games before the injury. His loss definitely impacts the Giants' defense, though they've remained one of the league's best in his absence.
