Beef O'Brady's Bowl: Southern Miss Golden Eagles vs. Louisville Cardinals

Southern Miss will play its ninth straight postseason game Tuesday night, as the Golden Eagles square off against Charlie Strong's Louisville Cardinals in the Beef O'Brady's Bowl.

Louisville comes into the game with its first-year coach and led by the running game and defense. Senior running back Bilal Powell averages 6.3 yards per carry and has run for 1,330 yards and 10 touchdowns. Under Strong, the former Florida defensive coordinator, the Cardinals have improved from 65th in yards allowed per game to 12th. They cough up just 304.7 per contest.

Louisville (6-6) had lost three of four games before closing with a blowout victory over Rutgers.

Southern Miss (8-4) comes in with nearly exact opposite circumstances. The Eagles won four of five games before falling to Tulsa, 56-50, to close the season. Southern Miss moves the ball offensively through the air, on the strength of junior signal-caller Austin Davis. He has thrown for 2,898 yards and 18 touchdowns against just six interceptions this season. He's coming off the second-most prolific game of his career, as he torched the Tulsa secondary for 371 yards.

The Golden Eagles have fought through adversity this season, as three players were shot outside a nightclub on Nov. 14. The incident left Martez Smith paralyzed from the waist down.

Also adding drama to the game is the fact that players from each team were involved in a fight a few nights ago -- which was started during friendly dance competition that turned sour.

Kickoff is scheduled for 8 p.m. eastern and the game will air on ESPN.
