Andrew Gallo, Killer of Nick Adenhart, Two Others, Sentenced to 51 Years

Andrew Gallo, whose blood-alcohol level was nearly three times the legal limit when he ran a red light and killed Angels pitcher Nick Adenhart and two others in April 2009, was sentenced Wednesday to 51 years to life in prison.

Gallo's attorney had argued for one sentence of 51 years to life in the three deaths, saying the construction worker didn't intend to hurt anyone. But Deputy District Attorney Susan Price said in court papers that Gallo's actions "showed a complete disregard for the safety of others."

The 24-year-old already was on probation for felony drunk driving when he crashed a minivan into a car carrying the 22-year-old Adenhart, 20-year-old Courtney Stewart, 25-year-old Henry Pearson and Jon Wilhite, then 24.

Only Wilhite, a former catcher at Cal State Fullerton, survived.
