Alex Tanguay Has 'a Lot to Prove' in Second Go-Around With Flames

Palm trees, endless sunshine and the beach just minutes away.

Yes, there is something to be said for living in Florida. But playing hockey in Florida, that's something completely different.

"Mentally, it's tough,'' insisted Alex Tanguay. "You start the season in October and there's maybe five, seven thousand people in the building for your first regular season game. It's a big adjustment. But it's hockey. You have to be ready to play whether you're in front of fans or not. You're getting paid to do a certain job but it certainly makes it easier when there's a lot of fans out there.''

Tanguay returns to the Calgary Flames after a couple of seasons in very diverse hockey settings: Montreal and Tampa Bay. The Flames traded him to the Habs for draft choices and the Ste-Justine, Que., native -- appearing in just 50 games due to injuries -- collected 41 points in 2008-09.

His fortunes deteriorated once again the following year upon signing with the Lightning, as he put up a career-low 37 points in 80 games. Hence the raised eyebrows when GM Darryl Sutter re-signed the winger for one season at $1.7M.

He doesn't have to be told that he'll be one of several Flames under the microscope.
