Things Are Finally Looking Up for Canucks' Cody Hodgson

Filed under: CanucksVANCOUVER, B.C. -- Cody Hodgson can almost see the light at the end of the tunnel.

The dressing room tunnel, that is.

After missing most of his 2009-10 season with Brampton of the OHL with back problems, the Vancouver Canucks' 2008 first-round draft choice is closer to launching his pro hockey career. Now, it's just a question of whether he will recover fully in time -- and meet the performance standard -- to play for the Canucks in the NHL or be placed in the AHL with the Manitoba Moose.

"The goal right now is just to become as healthy as possible and be able to get back to a level where I can play games -- and that should be soon here," said Hodgson.

Hodgson started training camp in Penticton, B.C., limited to light contact drills as his health woes, originally described as a bulging disc but then amended to include a torn lower back muscle, continue to impede his progress. But he now faces a detour instead of a roadblock on his journey to the pros.

The 20-year-old Toronto native hurt his back while participating in a Canucks-supervised shuttle run two summers ago. Permalink | Email this | Linking Blogs | Comments
