Oklahoma Fends Off Feisty Air Force

Filed under: Air Force, OklahomaWith only 15 minutes to play, it seemed elementary. No. 7 Oklahoma held a 27-10 lead over the Air Force Academy, a good Mountain West team, but still not someone that would intimidate the mighty Sooners.

But those who follow Air Force know the Falcons don't just lie down for anyone, no matter the score or time left on the clock. And they didn't. A 15-yard Kyle Halderman touchdown narrowed the Sooner lead to three (27-24) with 3:48 remaining in the game. The big-time upset was certainly possible and there seemed to be a small sense of fear emenating from Gaylord Family Oklahoma Memorial Stadium.

But the Sooners would not be denied, putting the remainder of the game on the sturdy shoulders of senior running back DeMarco Murray. He carried the ball six of the Sooners' final seven plays, moving the chains a few times and taking the wind out of Air Force's sails -- resulting in a 27-24 Sooner win.

Murray finished with 111 yards and two touchdowns on 26 carries. He also caught five passes, gaining 38 yards and scoring yet another touchdown.

Junior wideout Ryan Broyles also starred for the victorious Sooners, grabbing 10 passes for 117 yards.
