Talk about, "Out with the old, in with the new."
Montero, rated the No. 4 prospect by Baseball America prior to the 2010 season, hit .289 with 21 home runs at Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes Barre this season. But the young backstop will still have to prove he's ready to catch at the major-league level - and more importantly, hit.
"He's going to have to prove that," Cashman said on Oct. 25. "He's an exceptionally talented person, but potential means you haven't made it yet. He had a slow start at Triple-A this year, he was the youngest hitter in the International League. He put up some tremendous numbers once he got underway.
