BALTIMORE -- The Bucs needed a victory to keep pace with the Falcons and Saints in hopes for the NFC South division title, and also to stay in the playoff hunt. Baltimore needed a win in order to stay pace with the Steelers atop the AFC North. Both teams will have a showdown against their rivals next Sunday, but they had to get past each other first on Sunday. The contest started off as a defensive matchup in the first quarter as both teams exchanged punts. But everything changed in the second quarter after the Bucs and Ravens each kicked a field goal to make it a 3-3 game.
After the Bucs tied the game thanks to a questionable pass interference call on cornerback Myron Lewis as he was covering wide receiver T.J. Houshmandzadeh, leading to a 24-yard penalty, the Ravens scored two touchdowns in ten plays. A few big passes from quarterback Joe Flacco guided Baltimore to a 17-3 lead heading into the half.
