FanHouse Ranks The Top Five Americans to Play in England

clint dempseyThis past weekend saw a host of strong performances by Americans in European leagues.

Former Chivas USA midfielder Sacha Kljestan scored his third goal for Belgian club Anderlecht in a 2-1 win over Genk. Tim Howard and Brad Friedel earned shutouts in the English Premier League, and Maurice Edu scored Rangers' goal in a 1-1 draw with Inverness, among others.

Most impressive was Clint Dempsey, who scored both goals in Fulham's 2-0 Premier League win over Wigan Athletic. Dempsey has become one of the faces of Fulham since his arrival at Craven Cottage in 2007.

His tenacity and skill appears to have earned him the full support of the new coaching staff, while his penchant for clutch goals (including the spectacular winner against Juventus last season) has made him a fan favorite.
