Chad Henne's Poor Performance Doesn't Cost Him Support of Dolphins

DAVIE, Fla. -- Despite coming off of the worst passing performance of his young career, Miami Dolphins quarterback Chad Henne still has plenty of believers inside his locker room and inside the team's headquarters -- starting with his head coach, Tony Sparano.

Earlier in the season Sparano benched Henne in favor of veteran Chad Pennington, partly to shake things up and provide a spark to the team and, perhaps, partly to shake up Henne. It was the first time in his football playing career going all the way back to before high school that Henne did not start a game for any other reason other than injury after being named the starter.

The experiment lasted two plays as Pennington suffered a season-ending shoulder injury in his first snap, stayed in for one more play in which he completed a 19-yard pass to Brian Hartline and then left the field for good. Henne jumped right in and completed 19-of-28 passes for 240 yards, one touchdown and one interception before getting hit awkwardly on the left knee and leaving the game.

Initially reported as a potential season-ending injury, Henne was able to rehab quickly and dressed as the emergency third quarterback four days later against the Chicago Bears. He did not play, but was healthy enough 10 days after that to start at the Oakland Raiders and he picked up where he left off, completing 17-of-30 passes for 307 yards, two touchdowns and an interception in a 33-17 victory.
