Addazio, 51, was the offensive coordinator at Florida for the past two seasons and had been a member of Urban Meyer's staff since 2005. He served as the interim coach in the Sugar Bowl, when Meyer was on a leave of absence. When Meyer resigned this time around, he was replaced by Will Muschamp, who decided to hire a new offensive staff.
Addazio also served as Indiana's offensive coordinator for three seasons and has been an assistant coach at Syracuse and Notre Dame.
The Temple job would be his first full-time head coaching job.
Al Golden, who had coached Temple for five seasons and rescued the Owls from the depths of embarrassment, took the Miami job Dec. 12.
Temple finished 8-4 in 2010, and was the only bowl-eligible team with a winning record to not receive a postseason invite.
