CHESTER, Pa. -- Clint Dempsey has proved his worth at Fulham, again, and now is back in the U.S. for two exhibitions that don't mean a whole lot in the grand soccer scheme of things.
Coach Bob Bradley has sent a couple of players back to their clubs ahead of Tuesday night's game here against Colombia (8 PM ET, ESPN2), while he left several other regulars off the current roster altogether. But Dempsey, despite the fact that he only recently re-established himself as a starter at Craven Cottage, is preparing to pull on the U.S. jersey yet again.
Only two players started more national team games than the Texan's 14 in 2009 (Landon Donovan and Michael Bradley), and a knee injury suffered in January likely is the only thing keeping him off the list of leaders this year.
He's made his six appearances count however. Dempsey is one of only four players to score more than one goal for the U.S. in 2010. He had an outstanding World Cup, was the Americans' best player in the second-round loss to Ghana and had a decent, workmanlike outing in the 2-2 friendly draw with Poland last Saturday.
