Umpire Watch: It's (Not) a Trap

Umpires conference on Greg Golson's trapControversial calls have become as much a part of the Major League Baseball postseason as Derek Jeter and patriotic bunting. In Umpire Watch, we intend to document those calls, at least until commissioner Bud Selig puts us out of business.

Day 1 of the postseason, and already two controversial calls, one which was hard to make much sense of, and the other of which just made the men in blue look bad -- or just badly lacking the proper technological support depending on your perspective.

It's (Not) a Trap

The Situation: Two outs, no one on in the ninth inning with the Twins trailing 6-4 and Mariano Rivera in the game

The Play: Minnesota outfielder Delmon Young floats a sinking liner into right field where defensive replacement Greg Golson makes a stumbling attempt at a shoestring catch.
