Francisco Rodriguez and the Mets are near a settlement that will keep the closer's grievance against his team from being heard before an arbitrator, according to the New York Post.A hearing between Rodriguez and the Mets had been scheduled for Monday, but, according to the report, it is unlikely to go forward and a settlement could be announced early next week.
Rodriguez was arrested on Aug. 11 at Citi Field, New York's home ballpark, after he allegedly assaulted his girlfriend's father. A week after he was arrested -- following a two-day stint on the restricted list and one appearance -- it was revealed that Rodriguez had a torn ligament in his right thumb that required season-ending surgery.
