U.S. national team forward Charlie Davies has claimed that he was charged with driving 125 miles per hour last weekend because he switched places in the car with a teammate who feared his license already was suspended.Davies, severely injured in an accident one year ago that cost him a place on the World Cup team, told the Associated Press that FC Sochaux defender Jacques Faty, 26, was concerned after the pair was pulled over that he might be jailed for the offense, while Davies would face only a fine.
"That's not possible for me to go 120 miles per hour on the road after an accident and think everything will be fine. If a kid survives such a serious accident and then almost exactly a year later is driving at a reckless speed, it's like, 'This can't be serious'," Davies said, obviously aware of the uproar the news of the arrest caused back in the U.S.
