Bill Guerin Released by Flyers

After the Pittsburgh Penguins decided to not re-sign him this summer, veteran winger Bill Guerin caught on with the Philadelphia Flyers and attempted to make their opening night roster on a tryout contract. After an up-and-down preseason that was capped off with Sunday's minus-four performance in a 9-3 loss to the Buffalo Sabres, Guerin was released by the Flyers on Monday, via CSN, which now leads to the inevitable discussion of what the next step is for the veteran winger, with retirement being one of the possible (and perhaps likely) outcomes.

In 78 games last season -- most of which were played on a line centered by Sidney Crosby -- Guerin scored 21 goals to go with 24 assists.

Since entering the league in 1991, Guerin has spent time with eight different teams (not including his preseason tryout with the Flyers) and scored 429 goals in over 1,200 games. He was also a member of two Stanley Cup winning teams, winning it once with the New Jersey Devils in 1995, and also with the Penguins after being acquired at the trade deadline during the 2008-09 season.
