Allen Iverson Reportedly Considers Offer to Play in Turkey

Allen IversonFailing to draw interest from any NBA teams, Allen Iverson is close to signing a one-year contract to play in Turkey, his business manager Gary Moore told Yahoo! Sports. Iverson could earn up to $2 million from the Turkish team Besiktas provided an agreement is reached.

"We are in very serious negotiations with (Besiktas)," Moore said. "Istanbul is beautiful from everything we've learned. It's not that far from the U.S., and the competition is good which makes it all attractive.

"Allen wants to play basketball."

Iverson, 35, has averaged 26.7 points per game over 14 NBA seasons, but after controversial exits with the Detroit Pistons, Memphis Grizzlies and Philadelphia 76ers the last two seasons, it's unlikely he'll get another chance to play in the NBA.

According to the Yahoo! report, Iverson rejected more lucrative offers to play in China but is apparently receptive to playing in Europe. Even so, Iverson appears to be hedging his bets in case things go sour with his Turkish suitor: Yahoo! cites an unnamed European source who said one of the few remaining hurdles is "Iverson's reluctance to let Besiktas fine him beyond 1 percent of his $1.5 million base salary."
