Bill Muir Gets Offensive Coordinator Title, Keeps Chiefs' Line Coach Duties

Chiefs coach Todd Haley promoted from within Thursday in naming offensive line coach Bill Muir as his new offensive coordinator.

Muir, who will have the dual title of offensive coordinator/offensive line coach, is entering his third season in Kansas City. He coached the offensive line the previous two seasons and was a driving force behind the league-leading rushing attack that helped carry the Chiefs to the AFC West division title.

"We are very fortunate to have someone of Bill's caliber take over as offensive coordinator," Haley said in a statement released by the Chiefs public relations department. "Bill's depth of experience, his championship success as a coach and as a coordinator is widely respected around the league, and he will serve our young and veteran players very well and provide critical continuity as we continue to develop on offense."

Muir replaces Charlie Weis, who left after one season as the Chiefs' offensive coordinator to take a similar position with the University of Florida.

It was unclear whether Haley would resume calling plays or delegate that responsibility to Muir. Weis called the plays last season, though Haley served as the play caller in his first year in Kansas City in 2009 after he fired Chan Gailey as offensive coordinator just before the start of the season.
