Broncos Taking Perrish Cox Sexual Assault Accusations 'Extremely Seriously'

Rookie cornerback Perrish Cox has been arrested for investigation of felony sexual assault in connection with an Oct. 28 incident, officials in the Denver suburb of Lone Tree said on Friday.

Cox was taken into custody Thursday evening following a police investigation into the incident. He appeared in Douglas County Court on Friday in jail garb with his feet shackled and was escorted by sheriff's deputies, according to an Associated Press dispatch.

The AP reported that the district attorney's office filed the case under seal, meaning the details of the alleged assault were shielded from immediately becoming part of the public record.

The judge denied a request from Cox's attorney to reduce Cox's $50,000 bail, and Cox was ordered to return for another hearing on Jan. 7. Cox also received permission to leave the state twice in the coming weeks -- the Broncos play at Arizona on Sunday followed by another road game at Oakland on Dec. 19.

Broncos interim coach Eric Studesville said he just found out on Friday that Cox had been under investigation in the alleged assault case for more than month. He said the team was still gathering information before deciding whether to allow him to play against the Cardinals.

"This is a serious matter and something that we are taking extremely seriously as an organization," Studesville said. "We are going to get all the facts together and get all the information that we can and sit down and then we will figure out what we are going to do based on the information that we gather."

Cox, a fifth-round pick out of Oklahoma State, has appeared in 11 games with eight starts in place of the injured Andre Goodman. The Broncos have said that Goodman, who has struggled with a quadriceps injury this season, returned to practice this week and is expected to play Sunday against Arizona.
