Wyoming Quarterback Austyn Carta-Samuels Plans to Transfer

Filed under:

Wyoming quarterback Austyn Carta-Samuels, who was the Mountain West freshman of the year in 2009, has decided to transfer, according to a release by the university.

Carta-Samuels is heading into his junior season, but does have a redshirt year. He did not indicate where he might transfer.

In an e-mail to the Casper Star-Tribune, Carta-Samuels did not disclose why he was leaving the program, but did say he has no ill feelings toward Wyoming.

"Please know that I have made this decision for personal reasons and that I have no regrets," Carta-Samuels wrote. "This is the best decision for my growth and success going forward. There may well be speculation as to why I am leaving, I would simply state, with conviction, that I have given my heart and soul to the program and will always wish the very best for Poke Nation and the Wyoming Cowboys."

Carta-Samuels started all but one game this season and completed 61 percent of his passes for 1,702 yards, nine touchdowns and eight interceptions for a Wyoming team that finished 3-9.

Coach Dave Christensen spoke with Carta-Samuels last month and told media that he thought his young quarterback would stay with the program.
