Rich Rodriguez will reportedly be fired by the University of Michigan three days after a 52-14 blowout loss at the hands of Mississippi State in the Gator Bowl. The two sides are apparently working out the details of the firing.MyFoxDetroit.com cited unnamed sources in its report.
Of course, The Wolverine, Michigan's Rivals.com site, is reporting that no decision will be made until Wednesday. Do note that this report doesn't say the other one is errant, only "premature."
The Wolverine does pass along that there is a players' meeting that had been scheduled for 7 p.m. Tuesday and has been postponed until Wednesday afternoon at 4:00.
The University issued a denial to the original report of the firing Tuesday night.
Rodriguez's future with the team has been heavily questioned of late. Reports even linked Stanford coach Jim Harbaugh to a possible opening at Michigan, his alma mater, while Rodriguez was still employed. Recent reports indicate Harbaugh isn't interested in the job, however.
